My Experience with Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder

We need to be extra careful as we age not to be too heavy handed when it comes to makeup. Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder is one thing I’m thankful I can still use.  We all eventually switch from black eyeliner to brown or other less severe shades. Eyebrows that were plucked too much must be filled in but not too much or too dark or we wind up looking like  Cruella DeVille.  And powder! It used to be what I applied when I was young and didn’t want to wear foundation.  Throw the compact into my purse and out the door to work.  Now it all has to be orchestrated like a well-tuned symphony! I’ve tried many loose finishing powders over the last few years, but Prisme Libre works just right! It’s finally milled, weightless and believe me, I notice a difference if I don’t use it. I’m not really sure how to describe the magic that happens, but I’ll give it go.

It brightens my eyes and sets my concealer. It is a must with concealer, but with an extremely fine hand. Obviously, most powders are not a mature woman’s best friend. But it’s a must anyway!

But more than this, the larger pores that I now sport on my face are a result of gravity pulling them down like the rest of my body.  However, doing the same steps with the problem area where my cheek meets the side of my nostril is nothing short of a miracle.  I mean it!  Poof, they’re gone.  They just seem to disappear. I’m sure one day that won’t be so, as they’ll just be too big, but right now I’ll take it!

I use a smaller brush instead of a puff because I find it easier to control the amount of powder I’m applying. My favorite for this is the BK Beauty 108 Precision Powder. You could also use a fluffy brush if you have one that fits nicely under the eye.

This powder has truly transformed my opinion of setting powders. As the years go by, heavy makeup can actually add years to your appearance, but the Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder is different. Its light, finely milled texture sets my makeup beautifully without sinking into fine lines or emphasizing my pores.

Over the years, I've experimented with various luxury powders, but nothing has delivered like this one. It’s almost magical! My eyes appear brighter, my concealer stays put, and my complexion looks more even.

When it comes to mature skin, remember that what ages us are the darker areas and spots. Skin care is utmost of importance. Check out some of my recommendations here. An uneven skin tone is what ages us, not wrinkles. But please start your makeup routine with SPF.

Key benefits include

·         Matte, Sheer Finish: Sets makeup without leaving the skin looking flat or cakey.

A Comparison with Luxury Competitors

In the luxury beauty world, Givenchy Prisme Libre faces stiff competition. Here’s how it measures up:

·         Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder:

  • Texture: Slightly denser than Givenchy, offering more coverage. Great for setting makeup, but can sometimes feel heavy on mature skin.

  • Finish: Matte, though it can occasionally leave skin looking too flat if over-applied.

  • Longevity: Excellent staying power, though those with oilier skin might need touch-ups.

  • Best For: A full-coverage, matte finish.

·         Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Setting Powder:

  •     Texture: Finely milled but with a heavier feel compared to Givenchy. Known for its baking capabilities, it’s popular for a more dramatic look.

  •     Finish: Very matte, which might be too drying for mature or dry skin.

  •     Longevity: Long-lasting but can accentuate dry patches or fine lines.

  •     Best For: Those who love a full-glam look and don’t mind a more intense matte finish.

·         Chantecaille HD Perfecting Loose Powder:

  • Texture: Ultra-fine, similar to Givenchy, with a soft, almost imperceptible feel on the skin.

  • Finish: Natural and luminous, very similar to Givenchy, but slightly less mattifying.

  • Longevity: Decent wear time, though it might not hold up well in very humid conditions.

  • Best For: A natural, skin-like finish with light blurring effects

Final Thoughts

Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder is a luxury product that truly delivers. For mature women seeking a powder that offers a matte, luminous finish without settling into fine lines, this is an exceptional choice. It’s versatile enough to suit various skin tones and types, and the unique combination of four shades in each container ensures a perfect complexion every time.

When compared to other luxury brands like Laura Mercier, Huda Beauty, and Chantecaille, Givenchy stands out for its balance of mattifying, blurring, and illuminating properties. While Laura Mercier offers excellent coverage, it can feel too heavy for mature skin. Huda Beauty excels at full-glam looks but may be too intense for everyday wear. Chantecaille, with its natural finish, is a close contender, but Givenchy’s ability to cater to a wider range of skin tones and its long-lasting luminosity gives it the edge.

If you’re looking to elevate your makeup routine with a powder that enhances your natural beauty without overpowering it, Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder might just be your next must-have.
