Audrey Hepburn Favorite Scent- Hubert de Givenchy Linterdit

Audrey Hepburn’s Favorite Parfum by Hubert de Givenchy L’interdit

Audrey Hepburn kept very exclusive company with the late French couturier Hubert de Givenchy, who dressed her in many of her films and in real life, including the famous white floral dress that she wore when she won her Oscar in 1954. She gave many interviews where she said his apparel gave her confidence in business and personal life. I've heard tell she never missed one of his runway shows until her death. Her favorite perfume was Hubert de Givenchy Linterdit. True or not, what's the point of wearing something - anything that doesn't make you feel wonderful, strong, beautiful, or confident? We're strange creatures sometimes, no doubt, but we connect with and tend to be quite loyal to the brands that give us that confidence or agree with our philosophy of life.

Hubert de Givenchy Linterdit

Hubert de Givenchy created a custom-made fragrance, just for Audrey Hepburn. Givenchy House lore has it that when Givenchy asked Hepburn if he could mass-market the scent, she told him, "Je vous l’interdis! - meaning, “I forbid you!" Yet in 1957 the fragrance brazenly hit the market under the name "L'Interdit" - meaning "Forbidden". I laughed out loud when I first read that!

Today, this same daring spirit has been reborn with the help of expert perfumers Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo and Fanny Bal, who reinterpreted the scent in 2018. The bottle is clearly an homage to the original, while the juice has been amped up for this day and age. Orange blossom, jasmine and tuberose all swirl amidst earthy vetiver and patchouli for a wild femininity.

This is my favorite perfume of all time. It is the perfect union of floral and woodsy - understated and yet lingers beautifully, all day. Hubert de Givenchy Linterdit fits me and my attitude toward life. I believe as mature women, we are more confident in what we like, and are comfortable with saying no when someone doesn't agree without feeling bad about it. De Givenchy even had a sense of humor when disagreeing with Ms. Hepburn!
