My Personal Experience with Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick

When I first dabbled in contouring, I was a bit anxious. I certainly didn't want to end up with an over-the-top 80’s look. With age, my face has changed, and so have my makeup needs. Contouring, thankfully, offers a much needed "lifted" look, and for that, I'm grateful.

Powder contours never quite did it for me—they left a flat, pasty finish that didn't complement my textured skin. That's when I discovered Westman Atelier's Face Trace contour sticks. I've been using them for a few years now and can't get enough of their convenience and creaminess. These sticks blend effortlessly, whether I'm using brushes or just my fingertips.

Westman Atelier offers three fabulous shades:

1. Bisquit: A cool shade, perfect for contouring.

2. Truffle: A rich mocha coffee tone, darker and warmer.

3. Ganache: A deep espresso shade.

For my light to medium skin, Bisquit works well, but I also use Truffle for a bit more in depth color. The sticks are incredibly convenient—creamy but not too “slippery” on my dry skin. For those with oily skin, I'm curious about your experience, so please drop a comment below! 😉

These contour sticks are perfect for anyone who wants an easy, buildable contour without fuss. I prefer the mini sizes since they last ages, even with regular use, and they’re perfect to take along when you travel. The full-sized version is priced at $48, while the minis are $26.

How I Use the Face Trace Contour Stick

Contouring can seem complex, but it really boils down to understanding your face shape and what you want to enhance. Dark will recede what you want to minimize and light will bring it forward.

Here's my simple routine, but have some fun experimenting when you have time.

  • Skin Prep: After cleansing, I moisturize and let it sink in for about 30 minutes. Then, I apply a primer, usually Bobbi Brown’s Face Base.

  • Application: With or without foundation, I start at the hairline, applying a short line just above the cheekbone shadow, extending no further than the outer eye socket. I blend upwards to lift the cheeks.

  • Nose Contouring: Using the edge of the stick or a narrow brush, I draw lines along the sides of my nose and blend. For a narrower look, I connect these lines up to my brows and down to the tip.

  • Forehead: A few dashes on either side of the top of your forehead and blend up into the hairline

  • Eyes: A quick sweep across my hooded eye area with the leftover product on my brush.

  • Finishing Touches: Some Face Trace Contour Stick under the lip line of the middle of the lower lip, (for a pouty look), and a dash of blush on the cheekbone, a bit of lipstick or balm, and I'm set.

  • Blending: I cannot stress enough the importance of blending well. It may be a good idea to check your makeup in natural light if possible.

  • Brows: I never go without, even to the office inside my house. 👵

At this point, you can do a complete makeup routine, with foundation, powder, eyes, etc.
